About Me

I'm Shelton Bumhe, a Computer Science student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln focused on backend systems, distributed workflows, databases, APIs, AI applications, and data-driven products.

I build software that turns messy operational processes into systems that are easier to search, monitor, automate, and scale. My work includes financial technology file tracking, fleet inspection platforms, AI-powered funding discovery, machine learning prediction models, and full-stack business applications.

Experience

Software Engineer Intern

Fiserv

May 2026 – Present

Engineering backend systems for enterprise file tracking across distributed financial workflows. The system monitors document movement, ingestion status, processing history, duplicate files, failures, orphaned records, and reconciliation events so teams can search file activity and investigate operational exceptions faster.

  • Engineered REST API endpoints using Java and Spring Boot for file status lookup, event tracking, and operational search workflows.
  • Designed audit logging workflows for ingestion events, processing status changes, duplicate detection, failure tracking, orphaned files, and reconciliation history.
  • Worked with Oracle SQL schemas, indexing strategies, and Redis-backed lookup patterns to improve file status search performance.
  • Applied event-driven architecture concepts using Kafka to support scalable file activity ingestion across distributed systems.
  • Collaborated with a 6-person engineering team in an Agile environment, participating in sprint planning, Jira tracking, code reviews, standups, and iterative delivery.
  • Owned backend implementation tasks across API design, database modeling, testing, and integration workflows.

Software Developer & Math Tutor

Dominion College

Feb 2022 – Aug 2023

Built internal academic reporting and analytics tools that enabled staff to track student performance, reduce manual reporting, and identify cohort-level learning trends. The role combined software development, database work, data analysis, and direct tutoring support.

  • Developed a Python and MySQL analytics platform for student reporting and academic performance tracking.
  • Designed database tables, SQL queries, and reporting workflows for tracking student performance across classes and cohorts.
  • Built pandas-based data pipelines to clean, transform, and summarize student performance data.
  • Created reports that gave staff clearer visibility into academic trends, student progress, and areas needing intervention.
  • Tutored students in mathematics while using performance data to guide more targeted academic instruction.
